For example, are you having issues with a manufacturing process which could be related to the lack of timely measurement data from the process, or the quality of these measurements? Are there things that you find difficult to analyse, test or measure where a robust solution would help to solve a problem?
If you think that you have a problem or an opportunity where NPL could help, then please consider applying for a M4R project – application is very easy, is all on-line, and response times are very quick.
If you have any questions about this please contact us on mmnetwork@npl.co.uk
The next MMN events are:
7th September: Digitalisation – Machine Learning event
The event will feature an overview of machine learning techniques for engineers and how they can be used by manufacturers. An opportunity will also be outlined for MMN members to get involved in a series of projects we are developing as an introduction to ML for those with little or no prior experience.
There will also be a practical example of how we have used machine learning to identify tool wear in a simple turning operation.
Has your boss asked you to “look into machine learning”?
Many manufacturing professionals have watched a host of webinars and online presentations during the past 18 months promoting countless structured adverts for equipment, software and skills they need to improve their operation. Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (ML/AI) are no exception. As classically trained engineers most of us don’t know where to start when it comes to these techniques and the only options seem to be an extremely expensive system offered by a company we don’t know (or trust) or we have to commit to a single machine tool manufacturer who will upgrade everything even when things aren’t broken.
This talk will take a step back and look at how different types of machine learning work, so you can feel confident that you’re starting the journey in the right direction. We’ll present a tool we’ve developed at NPL for SMEs that don’t have vast amounts of data to train and test some of these tools and we’ll introduce you to two different opportunities that the UK Government has funded that could allow you to dip your toe into the water without having to part with any cash.
21st September: Nanometrology event
Hear from NPL about our work in nanometrology and how we provide traceability for these measurements. Also speakers from Queensgate and the Diamond Light facility.
If you use precision stages in applications such as precision instrumentation or require nano positioning, then this event will be of interest to you.
