UKAS advances AI certification accreditation

UKAS is making strides in developing accreditation for AI management systems certification under the ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 standard, in alignment with ISO/IEC 42001:2023.

Following a call for expressions of interest, UKAS has received six applications from conformity assessment bodies (CABs) keen to join the initial phase of this pilot programme.

As these applications are being processed, UKAS is establishing the competence criteria for its assessment teams, defining the assessment approach and determining the scope for this new accreditation area. This process involves considering the current certification activities of the pilot CABs.

UKAS is also collaborating with other National Accreditation Bodies (ABs) to align their approach with international efforts. The aim is to commence assessments this autumn, subject to any operational or technical constraints, including emerging standards such as ISO/IEC 42006.

CABs interested in future accreditation opportunities can contact Steve Randall at developmentenquiries@ukas.com for more information.
