The global metrology community will celebrate World Metrology Day 2025 on 20 May, an occasion that marks the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention.

This year’s theme, Measurements for all times, for all people highlights the ongoing importance of accurate measurement in every aspect of society.

The Metre Convention, signed in 1875, laid the foundation for a unified and internationally recognised system of measurement, enabling scientific progress, industrial innovation and fair trade.

World Metrology Day has now been officially recognised as a UNESCO International Day and to support its global promotion the BIPM-OIML World Metrology Day Resource website has been launched, offering a range of free communication resources. These materials are designed to help national metrology institutes, academic institutions, industry partners and policymakers raise awareness of the importance of measurement science. Stakeholders are being encouraged to promote the importance of metrology within specific sectors, inspire discussions about the role of accurate measurements in achieving sustainability goals and enhance awareness of the Metre Convention’s historical and future impact
