Laing O’Rourke has become the first engineering and construction group in the UK to achieve certification across all of its entities to the British standard for quality management systems in the built environment, BS 99001.
The certification from BSI recognises Laing O’Rourke’s commitment to embedding a culture of quality at every stage of its operations, delivering safer, more sustainable, and higher-quality projects.
Published in 2022, BS 99001: Quality Management Systems for the Built Environment builds upon ISO 9001 by setting sector-specific requirements designed to address the complex challenges of the construction industry. The standard focuses on competence management, leadership accountability, risk management, and design control, with an emphasis on traceability, sustainability and progress towards net zero emissions.
To achieve certification, organisations must demonstrate excellence across all project phases, from design and procurement through to construction and handover, supported by rigorous ongoing independent assurance.
