The BMTA Asbestos Conference 2026 will take place on 19 March at 3M in Bracknell and will bring together measurement professionals, regulators, researchers and laboratory specialists to explore the future of asbestos testing, analysis, and management and how the sector must evolve to meet new challenges.
Our last asbestos conference took place in December 2018. Since then, the world has changed dramatically. The regulatory landscape is tightening, with anticipated reductions in exposure limits and heightened scrutiny of workplace safety. At the same time, AI-assisted detection and data analytics are transforming how asbestos professionals measure, interpret, and report results.
This landmark 2026 event will deliver a comprehensive programme focused on the practical, scientific and regulatory developments shaping asbestos measurement across the UK.
Key sessions will examine:
- The implications of proposed exposure limit changes for UK laboratories and consultants
- Advances in asbestos fibre detection and analysis
- Best practice and new guidance on air sampling, clearance testing, and maintaining measurement accuracy
- Innovations in field testing and portable instrumentation
- The presence of asbestos in soils and non-traditional materials
- The evolving role of analysts in ensuring safe removal and clearance
The conference will also feature dedicated discussions on training, competence, and professional development, including updates on ISO/IEC 17025, UKAS accreditation and proficiency testing schemes.
As an exclusive addition, a limited number of delegates will have the opportunity to join a guided tour of the cutting-edge 3M laboratories on site, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at the technology driving innovation in measurement and materials science.
