PRIVACY POLICY

The British Measurement and Testing Association (BMTA) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy.
 
This Policy explains when and why we collect personal information about people who visit our website, how we use it, the conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure. We may change this Policy from time to time so please check this page occasionally to ensure that you’re happy with any changes. By using our website, you’re agreeing to be bound by this Policy. WHO ARE WE?

We are The British Measurement and Testing Association (BMTA) and we represent the interests of the measurement and testing industry in the UK and in Europe, as the UK representative of EUROLAB. We are classed under the GDPR regulations as a data controller. That means we decide how personal data we receive is processed and for what purposes.

Abacus Communications Limited manages the data on behalf of BMTA and are classed under the GDPR regulations as a data processor.

HOW DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM YOU?

We obtain information about you when you use our website, for example, when you register to join BMTA, register to attend one of our events, to make an enquiry, to make a payment or if you register to receive one of our regular newsletters. We also receive and process personal information regarding membership applications and renewals.

WHAT TYPE OF INFORMATION IS COLLECTED FROM YOU?

The personal information we collect might include your name, business address, email address, phone number, IP address, and information regarding which pages were accessed and when. Accrediting bodies, notified bodies and other associations affiliated to BMTA may pass on to BMTA basic contact details such as your name, address, email address and phone number.

HOW IS YOUR INFORMATION USED?

We may use your information to:

  • Process applications or renewal of membership of BMTA
  • To carry out our obligations arising from any contracts entered into by you and us
  • Seek your views or comments on the services we provide
  • Notify you of changes within BMTA
  • Send you communications that may be of interest to you. These may include newsletters, industry news, information on standards, events and other relevant industry activities
  • Process a job application to join BMTA

We review our retention periods for personal information on a regular basis. We are legally required to hold some types of information to fulfil our statutory obligations. We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the relevant activity, or as long as is set out in any relevant contract you may hold with us.

EMAIL NEWSLETTERS

We use a third party platform, for our email newsletters. When you sign up we will use your email address to send you regular updates. You can change your mind at any time and unsubscribe from this service.

GOOGLE ANALYTICS

We use Google Analytics to collect information about how people use this site including

  • What pages you visit and for how long 
  • What type of device you are using
  • How you got to that page
  • What words you use when making your search
  • The number of searches that showed no results

This helps us to make sure we are meeting your needs and understand how we can make the website work better. Google Analytics does not collect or store any personal information.

  • When you sign up for our regular newsletter on our website 
  • When you register for membership of BMTA directly on our website or through paper forms or over the phone
  • When you register to attend one of our events 
  • When you register to attend a training course

PROCESSING NECESSARY FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF A CONTRACT WITH THE DATA SUBJECT OR TO TAKE STEPS TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT

  • When you register  for events so we can process your application and any payments, arrange accommodation and other activities
  • Provide you with suggestions and advice on products and services as well as how to obtain the most from using our website

WE MAY PROCESS INFORMATION ON THE BASIS THERE IS A LEGITIMATE INTEREST, EITHER TO YOU OR TO US, FOR THE PURPOSES OF:

  • Record-keeping for the proper and necessary administration of our organisation

  • Insuring against or obtaining professional advice that is required to manage organisational risk

WHO HAS ACCESS TO YOUR INFORMATION?

BMTA requires access to personal information such as name, job title, business address, phone and email details in order to process your membership of BMTA.

  • We will not sell or rent your information to third parties
  • We will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes

HOW YOU CAN ACCESS AND UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION

The accuracy of your information is important to us. We’re working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information that we hold about you. In the meantime, if you change email address, or any of the other information we hold is inaccurate or out of date, please email us at: enquiries@bmta.co.uk. Alternatively, you can telephone us on 01483 685 058.You have the right to ask for a copy of the information BMTA hold about you (we may charge £10 for information requests) to cover our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.

USE OF ‘COOKIES’

Like many other websites the BMTA website uses cookies. ‘Cookies’ are small pieces of information sent by an organisation to your computer and stored on your hard drive to allow that website to recognise you when you visit. They collect statistical data about your browsing actions and patterns and do not identify you as an individual. For example, we use cookies to store your country preference. FURTHER PROCESSING

If we wish to use your personal data for a new purpose, not covered by this Privacy Policy, we will provide you with a new notice explaining this new use prior to commencing the processing and setting out the relevant purposes and processing conditions. You will have the right to withhold consent to this new purpose at the time should you wish.
