Food and pharmaceutical research company RSSL has announced the opening of a new laboratory offering advanced 3D imaging and metrology services.

The development is a result of a £700,000 investment, aimed at meeting the growing demand for high-precision imaging and measurement.

The new laboratory is equipped with a unique combination of micro-CT, microscopy, and spectroscopy techniques, enabling comprehensive analyses of food products, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. As the only Contract Research Organisation (CRO) offering these combined capabilities, RSSL says it’s in the perfect position to provide high-precision, detailed and efficient services to clients across the food and life science sectors.

The advanced techniques have applications throughout the entire product lifecycle, from material characterisation and prototyping during product development to non-destructive quality analyses and accurate safety testing of complex products. They can also be utilised during commercial manufacturing to rapidly identify and resolve production challenges such as contamination and batch-to-batch inconsistency.

The new services are fully integrated with RSSL’s existing capabilities, offering clients an end-to-end strategic partner that can provide tailored analytical solutions to meet unique project requirements.

Jacinta George, RSSL’s MD, said, “At RSSL, we are committed to meeting the latest needs of our clients and driving cutting-edge research across our key sectors. By investing in our new imaging and metrology services, we are delivering on this to support innovations ranging from novel foods and sustainable packaging to precision medicines and medical devices.”

She added, “With this latest investment, we are also further expanding our laboratory footprint and service offering as part of our ambitious long-term growth strategy. This is central to enabling us to continue achieving our goal of supporting clients to help build a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future.”

This expansion of services is expected to support RSSL’s clients in accelerating R&D, enhancing quality control and ensuring regulatory compliance.
