Markes International launches new range of gas sampling bags for flexible air testing

Markes International has expanded its air sampling portfolio with the launch of high-quality gas sampling bags, now available in both Tedlar® and multi-layer inert foil formats.

This new offering is designed to complement Markes’ extensive range of products for active (pumped) and diffusive (passive) sorbent tube air sampling, as well as canister and on-line air sampling, SPME, and high-capacity sorptive extraction (HiSorb®) technologies.

The new gas sampling bags are fully compatible with all online- and canister-enabled thermal desorption (TD) systems, providing analysts with a practical alternative in situations where traditional tube-based sampling may be less effective—particularly when dealing with very volatile compounds.

Gas sampling bags are also a convenient solution when canisters are too bulky or costly for the application.

While canisters remain the standard for regulated methods such as US EPA Method TO-15, bags are especially valuable for research-led applications, including environmental screening, industrial hygiene, and biomarker discovery, where portability and rapid deployment are essential. Their use is also growing in emerging fields such as hydrogen fuel purity testing.

“Canisters and sorbent tubes are essential for standardised protocols, but gas sampling bags fill a unique role in more exploratory work,” commented Dr Paul Morris, Head of Markes Product Group. “They offer ease of use and flexibility in the field, and their compatibility with thermal desorption workflows makes them a reliable tool for a wide range of studies.”

Available in 1 L, 2 L, 5 L, and 10 L sizes, the bags are constructed from inert materials to ensure sample integrity and minimise the risk of contamination.

Each bag is fitted with a robust polypropylene valve and supplied with a protective mesh sleeve for safe transport.
